In our practice EMface treats the upper neck just below the jaw with the submentum pad, in the same four sessions as the area under the chin. BTL states that the submentum and eye applicators are FDA-cleared in the US for aesthetic use including facial and neck stimulation. There is no separate neck applicator, so for the crepey skin and lines of the neck below, the clinician plans Sofwave at our sister clinic at the same address, and the two are often one plan. From £199 per session at EMface Clinic, 8 Devonshire Place, with the price in writing at a free consultation.
What it does on the upper neck
The submentum applicator delivers synchronised radiofrequency, which warms the skin under the jaw to the temperature at which it lays down new collagen, and HIFES, which contracts the muscle beneath. The skin under the jaw and at the top of the neck tightens and the line from the chin to the neck sits cleaner. The applicator does not reach the middle or lower neck, and we say so.
The evidence
The study behind the submentum clearance followed 56 patients through four treatments, with 91% improving by at least one point on the standard aesthetic improvement scale and no adverse events. It measured the area under the chin, not the neck, and no EMface study measures the neck, and we say so. Sofwave's clearances cover the neck and under the chin, and its page at our sister clinic sets out its evidence.
The session and the course
The pad is placed under the chin, the applicator runs for about 20 minutes, the skin is a little pink for ten to twenty minutes and you go straight back to work. Four sessions about a week apart. The main result shows six to twelve weeks after the last session, with the after photograph at three months, and it holds for around twelve months for most people in our experience.
